  • WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP
The Library is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. We (the SJC Friends) are giving it a major gift in the form of a brand new bookstore.

We have been planning and saving for eight long years to make this dream of donating a bookstore to the residents of San Juan a reality.

Inflation caught up with us, however, and our funds didn’t quite meet the low-bid price.

But, rather than postpone this gift that will so benefit the community for another eight years, we decided you cannot always wait for the perfect time because there may be no such thing. Sometimes you just have to dare to jump – bite the bullet and do it and put it out there in the universe. So we did.

We borrowed funds so the City could award the contract. However, the borrowed funds are for construction only, and in addition to the construction shortfall, we have no reserved funds for the interior of THE Bookstore, general operations or much needed library programs.

So, we hate to ask, but won’t you help us help the library? We need your help and support for:

    a) Designated funds: Furnish the inside with furniture, fixtures, equipment, cabinetry, computers, bookshelves, etc.

    c) Operating Funds: Renew your membership or join as a lifetime member

    d) Operating Funds: Donate gently used or important books or classics or books of historical or significant value that will bring a good return to the Friends in the new bookstore

    e) Sponsorships: In order to bring awareness to the library of its beneficial programs, we will be kicking off a year-long campaign to bring this pearl of a library into public focus once again and in the public’s eye. We’ll do this with events, programs, fundraisers and Pearl Jubilee celebrations. We will involve all aspects of the city. But this costs money, so sponsorships are critical. Talk to businesses you patronize to see if they’d be interested in sponsoring a 30th anniversary/Pearl Jubilee event or if they’ll donate prizes for same or get involved in some way. We want to make this a city-wide celebration. The library is our library – it benefits all of us equally – is the best example of democracy there is; everyone gets the same free service. Let’s show the library how much we appreciate it.

Please make a tax deductible, secure donation on this website or call (949) 218-4512.

THANK YOU for your continued generosity.
